News: Cheating
The vast majority of our players are honest, conscientious folks. We know
that, and appreciate it. For the player out there, though, that discovers a
bug or loop-hole and is considering its use: think twice. For your sake, as
well as our own. Because if cheating is discovered you will not be allowed to
play here any longer. It is as simple as that.
It is no fun for us to have to tell a player their participation in our
mutual adventure is no longer wanted, so please don't make it necessary. If
you discover a bug or loop-hole, DO NOT USE IT. The odds are high you will be
discovered. Instead, let the proper Code administrator know about it right
away; it makes you look good, and allows us to improve our code. We all win.
Other forms of deception may be considered cheating, such as the improper
use of IC/OOC information (NEWS IC-OOC). These events do not endanger the
game server, but they are taken equally seriously (NEWS DISCIPLINE).
Remember, if you discover ANY bug, code problem, flaw or similar, @mail,
email or page any connected Admin, and they will be able to handle it or
direct you further.

News: Discipline
Discipline here does not follow a concrete format of steps, or mandated
punishments. Rather, the severity of the crime is taken into account and a
suitable sentence determined by staff on a case-by-case basis.
Depending on the offense in question, viable punishments may include, but
are by no means limited to the following:
- MINOR OFFENSES - Verbal Warnings, @Booting, @Jailing
Examples: rudeness or hostility to staff or other players, etc.
- MAJOR OFFENSES - @jailing, @nuking, @newpassing, @sitelocking
Examples: extreme hostility, ic-ooc offenses, bug exploitation, etc.
- SEVERE OFFENSES - @nuking, @newpassing, @sitelocking
Examples: violating local, state or federal law, site hacking, etc.
We do not intend to play Gestapo here, but for the sake of the entire
playerbase we intend to identify and punish those whom violate the trust.

News: Consent
On this MUSH, we adhere to a consent based system that revolves around the
principle of player freedom to determine what happens to his/her character(s).
This means that players cannot inflict grievous harm or radically affect the
course of another player's character's life without both parties approval
except under certain strict circumstances as detailed below. Note that ANY
action you perform may result in a consequence and that 'consent' only serves
to protect you from the selfish or unfair attentions of other players. It does
not protect you from the effects of actions you willfully commit.
- Auto-consent:
Automatic character consent is given when a character engages in one
of the following acts. Character death is possible in these cases:
- Unprovoked assault on one character by another. The provoking
player agrees through action to automatic consent. Military
soldiers engaged in faction battle with other military soldiers
do not apply in this instance.
- Theft/Piracy/Kidnapping. Any of these actions will result in
automatic consent. The perpetrators of any of these crimes may
suffer any consequence that arrives through proper RP.
- Blatant Stupidity. You, as a mortal sentient, are not a God.
You are flesh and bone (and occasionally exoskeleton) and should
you attempt to take on a Stormtrooper platoon single-handedly,
the odds are high you will be severely injured, possibly killed.
- Treason/Defection. Should you attempt any defection, the party
of which you are exiting has authority to terminate you, as do
its select agents and affiliates.
- Faction Autoconsent:
Members of factions auto-consent to roleplay based upon the current
standing of the faction in question. This means an Imperial character
may attempt to arrest a Rebel character on sight, etc.
Prisoner Special Instructions:
Any prisoner captures on this mush MUST be released no later than
seven (7) days following original capture. Prisoners may be released
earlier than this, but may NEVER be held for a longer period of time
without the express consent of the prisoner in question -OR- the
specific approval of the MUSH RPA.

News: Features
Feature Characters (Features) are those characters that represent specific
personalities from the Star Wars films, books or roleplaying game. Feature
Characters exist for one purpose, and one purpose alone:
TO INCREASE YOUR ENJOYMENT OF THE GAME.
Being provided the opportunity to roleplay with Luke Skywalker, or Han Solo can be a memorable and character shaping experience, and we wish you,
the players, to have this exposure if you so choose.
Feature characters on SW:AoA, unlike other mushes, are not invincible.
They can be affected in the grid just like any other character. Thus, all
consent rules apply to them in an identical fashion as they apply to you.
Please refer to +FEATURES for a full list of available features, as well
as their currently played status. Should features become available for
application, this information will be posted to the appropriate +bboard.

News: Force
The Force. Without it, Star Wars would be but a hollow shell of that which
we have come to know and love. The force provides a myserious, exciting,
mystical backdrop to SW:AoA.
Those blessed with the ability to manipulate the force are termed 'Force
Sensitives' (FS), and are an extreme rarity in the galaxy; the Empire's cruel
purge of the galaxy's Jedi was wildly successful.
It is important to note that on SW:AoA there is no standard Force
Sensitivity application process. Only a very small number of active force
characters will be present at any given time. Should you be a competent
roleplayer, with a proven history of promoting roleplay in a mature manner,
rest assured that should a spot open up, you WILL BE CONSIDERED and possibly
approached on the matter. Force characters can have an enormous impact on the
game at large, and in that manner we must keep their numbers small and ensure
that only the most competent and ACTIVE players receive them.
At this time, however, staff do not accept self-applications for any sort
of force sensitivity.

News: IC-Alts
An Alternate Character (Alt) is a secondary character. Players on this
mush are under specific circumstances allowed to have a total of five (5)
active characters at the most. To be eligble for an alt, you must:
- Be PRE-APPROVED by an administrator. PAGE AND ASK AN ADMIN
- Have a primary character older than two (2) weeks.
- Show reasonable activity on your primary character by achieving an RP
Award. Explorer-award and higher.
Alts operate under certain conditions and restrictions intended to reduce
the possibility of IC-OOC conflicts during the course of the game. These
conditions and restrictions are:
- You may not apply for an alt in a group or faction that is in direct
opposition to the group or faction of your primary character. I.E. a
member of the New Republic may not apply for an Imperial Stormtrooper.
- You may NEVER roleplay both characters in the same scene.
- NO exchange of IC information may be ever occur between alternates.
- Items or credits may NEVER be transferred between alternates.
Violation of alternate character policy will result in the @nuking of
your alternate character and your barring from any future alt consideration.
Likewise, should you create an alternate character without pre-approval, this
character will be @nuked and your ability to apply in the future revoked.

News: IC-OOC
There are two aspects to this MUSH: In Character (IC) and Out Of Character
(OOC) activity. It is essential that you understand the differences between
the two and learn to effectively separate them from influencing eachother.
Anything that is learned through the course of normal roleplay, reports,
rumors or coded communication is considered to be IC and may be acted upon by
your character in any way, shape or form.
Other means of communication, such as @mail, page, channels, and off-mush
means of communication (ICQ, Yahoo! Messenger, Email, etc.) is considered OOC
and MUST NOT be used or acted upon by your character under most circumstances.
- Specifics:
- Information learned OOC must stay OOC. Hearing someone talk about an
impending Imperial invasion on a channel does not mean your character is
aware of this information, for instance.
- Under certain rare circumstances, and usually under the observation or
direction of a staff member, it may be possible to utilize OOC means to
disseminate IC information. ASK AN ADMIN if you need to do this.
If you are unsure of how to differentiate IC-OOC information, or a
situation has developed in which you are uncertain as to the peculiarities of
an IC-OOC relationship, please contact Staff to assist you in the matter.

News: Mailbox
Your personal @mailboxes take up valuable space on this MUSH. As such, we
request that you actively police the size of your box inventory, and in so
doing help keep our server fast and our databast bloat free. Specifics:
- There is a hard-coded maximum number of mails per box, set at 50.
- The maximum number of bytes allowed within your mailbox is 20,000 (20k)
and this number is monitored routinely by the administration. It is
requested that all players attempt to keep box size under 10,000 if at
all possible. Should this byte maximum be exceeded, staff will give you
a three day warning to reduce its size, at which time matters will be
taken care of on the spot via @clear.
These rules are very important, they keep the server size manageable,
which means faster service to you and a more enjoyable time for all.If you
have information that requires saving, copy it to an external text file.

News: Original
- What is an Original Character (OC)?
Put quite simply, an original character is a unique creation dependent
upon your own imagination and creative powers. OC's may at first glance appear
to be less important, capable or powerful than feature characters or force
sensitives (which are themselves often original characters), but THIS IS NOT
AT ALL THE CASE.
Original characters provide the player with the singular most powerful
tool in the arsenal of the online roleplay: FREEDOM. If you were to play
Darth Vader, for instance, you are required to adhere to the on-screen and
book-based personae that has been identified and provided. In the case of
an original character, you are quite capable of acting in any way, shape or
form that your character may IC'ly undertake. Mon Mothma would never defect
to the Galactic Empire. Your character might!
Original characters require thought and creativity in order to reach their
maximum potential, as they lack an official "character template" such as that
enjoyed by Han Solo or Maximillian Veers. Playing an OC, however, can be the
most rewarding experience on a mush. Because YOU are the driving force.
- What makes a good Original Character (OC)?
This is perhaps the question of questions. What makes a good character in
general? The answer is: depth. Depth of character is one of those things that
really separates the men from the boys, so to speak. A character that carries
a heavy blaster, like to shoot things and little else can get boring to play,
and certainly gets boring to be around. But the character that appears to have
a real life, that has ambitions and goals, a history of pains, trials,
tribulations as well as successes large and small, is far more interesting.
Give some thought to your character, his past, his hopeful future, his
ambitions and dreams. Most of this information will be placed in his or her
character biography, but this information is not intended to be written and
then quickly forgotten. It is only through using it that you really benefit
from it.
As well, consider the less traditional approach to character archetypes.
We have any number of mercenaries, tramp freighter pilots and revenge-seeking
orphans. But the staff would like to ask you to consider the benefits of a
less common archetype; you will likely find players react to you more
positively, and in fact seek out your roleplay, because it is different.

News: Rating
Star Wars: Age of Alliances MUSH has been rated 'M' for Mature. The
in game content is unregulatable, based on player-to-player interaction
both in-character and out-of-character.
It is possible that, during the course of playing on SW: AoA, scenes
involving swearing, violence, and nudity may occur. The staff will not
actively regulate what happens in-character. However, the following
rules DO apply:
- All TinySex(TS) must be kept in a private location. Private locations
include any lockable room or private office, and any private ship or
vehicle.
- Rape is not tolerated under any circumstance except in a case where
two players agree to it OOCly for story purposes. Both players MUST
agree.
- Underage characters may not participate in any sexual conduct. This
will result in immediate removal from the game.
- The 'Fade To Black' option is ALWAYS available for someone who does
not wish to play out a scene -- for instance, the torture of their
character. The player reserves the right to simply choose to say it
happened, and not RP a bit of it.
- While IC vulgarity is tolerated, the AoA staff will not stand for
OOC-based rating violations. Racial slurs, gender slurs, and other
forms of harassment are prohibited.
The Staff of SW:AoA will continue to try to uphold a clean and respectable enviroment both IC and OOC but they cannot be held liable for everything that occurs upon this MUSH as they are not all powerful and cannot monitor every piece of information transmitted through this gaming experience.
SW:AOA is an internet game and thus all players on this game are LIVE people who are asked to obey rules, but cannot be held to them beyond an honor system. The Staff of SW:AoA will continue to keep a vigilant watch on all @channels and BBoards to make sure that the players here-in hold a mature level of respect for one another and do not offend anyone's sensibilities as best as they can.
We are after fun in the Star Wars galaxy here, above all else, but we also recognize the potential for material that may be unsuitable for young players. We ask that if you are under the age of 18 and/or easily offended you consider to find a game that may be less likely to bring strife to you. Be -pleasant- on our game and the Staff will in-turn be pleasant with YOU!

MUSH. Please refer to the following guidelines in your interaction with others

- The administration will be fair in its use of all its powers.
- The administration will make all attempts to listen to and act
upon the suggestions of the playerbase, especially where
grievances are concerned.
- The administration must investigate all matters of impropriety,
and this may demand DARK observation of players in private areas.
Staff members will sparingly employ such observation when needed.
- No staff member may judge or rule on any scene involving his own
character(s), under any circumstances.
- Staff reserve the right to any means of punishment necessary in
the event a player violates the code of conduct. This includes,
but is not limited to warnings, @booting, @jailing, @nuking,

contest a decision one time, by presenting it to a specific
staff member's section leader, or the Head Wizard.
- GENERAL PLAYER/ADMIN RIGHTS AND RULES
- All players and administrators of this mush have the right to
safety from harrassment. Harrassment of any nature is strictly
prohibited on SW:AoA, and is grounds for disciplinary action.

member of this game, that is your one warning. Please comply.
- Please keep your language, especially within public venues, PG.
- Players inactive for an excessive period of time are subject to
idle-@nuking, demotion, or character recyling, at the sole
discretion of the administration.
- Players have the right to privacy while they are in NON-PUBLIC
(player owned, in fact or name) areas. This means a staff member
must announce his presence if he intends to observe RP while
DARK, and must reasonably consider requests for further privacy.

DO NOT SHARE THIS RIGHT TO PRIVACY.
- As stated in 'NEWS RATING', TinySex (TS) is strictly prohibited.
- ROLEPLAY RIGHTS AND RULES

actions. As such, NEVER force another character to act in a
certain way. Allow other players to respond to IC situations
accordingly. Power Playing is heavily frowned upon at SW:AoA.
- At ALL TIMES, keep IC and OOC information separate.
- All IC actions have potential IC consequences. Please understand
that while we give all players the right to determine their
own actions, you must understand that consequences exist and
your own character may experience them. SEE 'NEWS CONSENT'.
- Significant changes to our IC universe and major crimes such as
murder, ship-jacking and bombings must be cleared by a judge.
- : You must at all times adhere to our PG rating. This means
ABSOLUTELY NO: Public TinySex, Rape, Torture or Gratuitous Violence.
